The Buffalo Sabres lost to the Ottawa Senators 5-3 Wednesday night at HSBC Arena. The loss halts the Sabres win streak at 6 games. The Senators were led by three second period goals, and had to hold off a Buffalo comeback in the third. After being down 4-1 Buffalo stormed back with consecutive goals, but couldn’t close the gap as Ottawa finished with an empty net goal.
The Sabres face the Devils on Friday night and the Penguins on Saturday night, and will then prepare for the Amp Energy NHL Winter Classic on New Year’s Day.
The Buffalo Bills dropped their 8th game of the season on Sunday, losing to the New York Giants by a score of 38-21. The Bills jumped out to a 14-0 lead and were in control of the game early on, but could not stop the Giants rushing attack. Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw racked up a combined 296 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground.
The Bills close out their season next Sunday when they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles in an afternoon matchup.
The Buffalo Sabres beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 Friday Night, and 6-5 Saturday Night to extend their winning streak to a season-high six games. Both games were played in a playoff-like atmosphere and were an early treat for fans going into the Holiday Weekend.
The Sabres return to action tonight at HSBC Arena as they take on the Ottawa Senators at 7 PM.
Ryan Miller stopped 42 of the 43 shots he faced Wednesday, leading the Sabres to a 2-1 lead against the New York Islanders.
Maxim Afinogenov scored with just 2:17 left to play in the third period putting the Sabres on top for good. Derek Roy also scored for the Sabres, netting the game’s first goal in the opening period.
The Sabres did lose two players throughout the course of the game, Derek Roy and Tim Connolly. Roy injured his shoulder later in the first period and was forced to leave, while Connolly was overcome by the flu.
Buffalo has now one four straight games and will look to make it five Friday night against the Philadelphia Flyers, a game highlighted on many calenders due to the return of Martin Biron and Daniel Briere.
Congratulations to Jason Peters of the Buffalo Bills, who has been named a starter at tackle for the AFC squad in this year’s Pro Bowl. Peters has only played 23 games in his career at Left Tackle. Many experts expect Peters to continue to develop and improve his skills, and Bills fans look forward to him anchoring the line for years to come.
Dimitri Kalinin is set to return against the New York Islanders this Wednesday, reports Tony Ramos. To make room for Kalinin the Buffalo Sabres have assigned Andrej Sekera to the Rochester Americans. Sekera has played in 21 games this year for the Sabres, netting one goal and two assists.
The Sabres welcome back Kalinin to their blue-line, as the defenseman had only played eight games prior to his knee-injury which took place on October 24th. The Sabres face the Islanders tomorrow at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
